John Mayer’s song Free Fallin’ speaks about being ‘free’ in two senses. The singer reflects on the latest serious relationship that he’s just ended. He’s free again – in the sense that he’s tied to no-one.

But he’s also free in the sense that, in pursuing what he desires, he’s continuing to sacrifice any chance of meaningful romantic connection.
